Benefits & Human Resources

Employees who work at least 20 hours per week during the academic year are eligible for the following benefits.

Medical Insurance
Preferred Provider (PPO) plan through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut features comprehensive coverage for a wide range of preventive and medical services, including routine office visits, well-baby care, immunizations, hospitalization, and worldwide emergency care. Express Scripts is incorporated with our medical plan for prescription drug coverage.

Dental Insurance
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plan covers diagnostic and preventive care, including routine check ups, and restorative care, including oral surgery. More extensive optional coverage is available for employee purchase.

Pension
Hotchkiss offers two defined contribution (403(b)) plans through TIAA-CREF.

  • The Hotchkiss School Retirement Plan: After two years of service, eligible employees are required to contribute five percent of their salary. The School will contribute ten percent.
  • The Savings Plan: A supplemental plan through which all employees can make pre-tax salary deferrals for extra retirement savings. The School will match 50% of the first five percent the employee contributes.

Flexible Spending Program
Employees may elect to cover certain medical insurance premiums, dental insurance premiums, uninsured medical expenses, and dependent care expenses through pre-tax salary reduction.

Life Insurance, Short-Term, and Long-Term Disability Insurance Programs
Hotchkiss provides life, short-, and long-term disability insurance to eligible staff through group insurance policies. Employees also may purchase additional term life insurance at greatly reduced rates.

Vacation, Holidays, and Sick Leave
Hotchkiss offers generous vacation, personal, and sick leave programs to faculty and staff.

Professional Development
Hotchkiss encourages and supports professional development through staff tuition reimbursement (50% for approved courses), faculty development grants, and other assistance.

Tuition Remission
Faculty and staff members who have been employed by the School for at least five years have the opportunity to send their children to Hotchkiss as day students, provided that the children are accepted under normal admission criteria to the School.
